Pros

Very nice part of NV

Cons

I worked at Hamilton Company for three and a half years. It is with out a doubt the worst company I have ever worked for. Hamilton Company used to have a high standard of excellence and a well deserved good reputation in the industry when the founder was running the business. That all changed very quickly when one of his sons took over the business. As a matter of fact, it has become so corrupt I would be very careful when reading the 5 star reviews that are present in this review list. If you are lucky enough to interview with their European subsidiary that is a different story. That business is well run and out performs Hamilton US every year. Because of European Foundation Laws Hamilton US has little influence on how they run their business which is a blessing for all those working there. Hamilton Company is located in Reno, NV and there is virtually no other scientific manufacturer in the area. The current president knows this and uses it as an albatross around the neck of those unlucky enough to move to Reno. This all adds up to a very risky job opportunity...

Pros

Beautiful View of the Sierra Nevada Mountains No pressure to learn There is always job openings There are no parking problems

Cons

The owner makes all decisions. Most privately held companies operate this way. However most owners usually understand the markets they are selling into. This owner does not and makes decisions "from the hip" Huge disfunction between departments High turnover rate

Pros

At one point in time the company seemed to be like a large family, and was happy to take care of it's employees. It is privately owned, vacation and sick time are reasonable. Work hours are good, 10 holidays a year are also good. The company continues to grow and prosper, offering a little bit of stability.

Cons

Have worked there for 15+ years I noticed a lack of loyalty towards long term employees. Many employees who had been there for 20+ years were forced to retire or flat out let go. As the company revamped, they seemed to prefer new blood to those who had been loyal. Perhaps in order to save some money. As another posted said, it is very much a country club environment, when you are "in" you're good, but if you don't fit in, it is not a pleasant experience. Management is not open to suggestion and communication is poor. Databases and computer systems are very dated, and they are border line paranoid on who can know what.
