Pros

They hire just about anyone. If you have a good manager your hours can be fairly flexible and thus it is a good job to have while you are in school. It is an OK place to work as long as you don't plan to be there very long since they will train your in your required duties you don't need any experience to start although it helps. Not a bad place to work as you first job if you don't have high expectations. Just know you won't make a career out or working there.

Cons

Poor pay. I worked at Hannaford from 1996 - 2007. I was promoted 3 times in that span. My salary when I left was $10.35 an hour. That is about one dollar for every year I worked there, and I got exemplary reviews each year. When I left there were cashiers who just started who were making almost as much as I was. Manager's play favorites. I know it happens everywhere but in the store I worked at it was horrible and I had experience with this for 10 years with multiple direct managers. Sometimes I was the favorite, often I was not but it is almost an encouraged practice at Hannaford. People who work hard are not rewarded. I worked there for 10 years and was denied several promotion, even ones I was qualified for due to my experience. There is nothing worse than having you boss be fired for incompetency, then having them be re-hired to the same position they were fired from less than a year ago (which I applied for) and then having to TRAIN them to do the job correctly this time. Only to have the stepped sideways because lo and behold, they don't know what they are doing. This happened to me twice in my time at Hannaford as as far as I know my former boss still works there. This brings me to my next point, Hannaford tends to promote mediocrity. Store Managers do not want to be challenged by department managers so they tend to promote people with just enough ability to do what the department requires. Often this leads to people being promoted beyond their skill level and it is always the hourly associates that have to pick up the slack. Despite coming in regularly (at least once a week) to over sick-calls or staying late to cover sick calls or help out when the store was short handed I was always yelled at if I was 5 minutes late back from a break or lunch. Even though I knew the job forwards and backwards to the point that at one time every single cashier had been trained by me I was yelled at if I didn't get registers washed or trash emptied because I was myself on register helping customers. Basically in my experience no matter how hard you work you will never be praised only disciplined if you mess up even a little. And the harder you work, the more they expect from you so if ever you cannot meet the level you set for yourself you will be told that you are slacking off and will be disciplined.

Pros

Good Pay...Good paid time off after long service...Good people to work with that have been with the company for a long time...

Cons

Managers used to work their way up from the low end and gain experience and decision makeing as they moved forward...this is no longer how it is...Delhaize seems to want Yes men and women who are in their early 20's to take on as managers...When Hannaford was still owened buy Hannaford the company had happy employees and happy customers...this has drastically changed...customers are pissed and morale sucks...Hannaford was a highly respectable grocery company @ a time...Delhaize ruined that...they are in Belgium...How do they know how things work here in the USA

Awful.

Pros

I enjoyed being around my coworkers. Some supervisors would be lenient towards what we did. Sometimes it was fun.

Cons

The supervisors, for the most part, were awful. Management didn't care about individuals. You were often chastised rather than praised.
