Pros

Interaction with customers, Independent work, Good pace

Cons

Low pay, Management disconnected from work-force (see themselves as separate from), Raises almost non-existent (was expected to show appreciation for 9 cent yearly raise), Hard work not acknowledged or rewarded by advancement or raises. PERFECT EXAMPLE: Each X-Mas.. we received a card w/ 2 coupons for the store worth $2 that always expired within 1 week.

TERRIBLE & LAZY MANAGEMENT

Pros

Benefits (if full time) Friendly associates

Cons

MANAGEMENT!! Management plays favorites and seems to really only be concerned with how their outcome is, not their associates. They will lie and manipulate you to get what they want out of you then try to toss you out with the trash. They often take very long lunch breaks most often when the store is slammed and already short staffed. I have on more then one occasion witnessed upper level management talk behind an associates back even go as far as cracking jokes to one another. (In front of non management personnel) There is no type of discount even for senior employees. There is a lack of respect for the individuals who actually deal with customers face to face on a daily basis and management will not back an associate up on anything. "Standard practice" is a joke and only certain associates are made to follow.. Training should be done by the manager or assistants and not rookies on the field. Ending in the "trained" associate getting flagged for their performance when it was how they were taught to do something.

Pros

decent co-workers and regular customers

Cons

I have been with Hannaford for just over a year, and I've never been so unhappy in a job!!!! I have a boss who is clearly going through menopause, but either doesn't know or doesn't care how she treats people. There is absolutely NO work life balance NONE!! My schedule jumps around so much, I never know when I'm working or if I'll have enough hours. The store I work at has a lot of "Lifers" employees who've been there forever!! They stick together and make it very hard for a new employee to feel welcomed or fit in!! They do offer insurance for Flex employees, (employees who are leads or work 30 hrs) but....it's VERY expensive and the hourly pay and lack of hours just barely cover the ins. payment each week. Believe me, 30 hours sounds like a lot, but not if your hourly pay is under $10.00 per hour. Hannaford holds their employees to a very high standard, lots of training and work shops, they expect the moon and stars from us, but pay us so little that managing monthly expenses is impossible. Oh, and don't even think about approaching your boss about the need to take a part time job, you will only get told that they cannot work AROUND another job, your hours are your hours and if you can't work them than they can drop to part time status which is 0-20 hours......REALLY
