Pros

Good benefits, most of the people were nice, free parking. If you want to sound impressive to people as to where you work this place has a great title.

Cons

-Once you take a position here, it's likely you will never move on to anything else. The company does not seem to believe in promoting from within. The salary raises/increases are not great either. -This place seem to be like one big giant clique. It often felt like high school. If you were liked I guess that's a good thing, but if you were not one of the 'cool' kids then you often felt left out. It seemed very unprofessional. - People have been there a LONG time even if they aren't satisfied with their job. A few people who were in their 30's/40's said they hoped to retire here. That's not really how the world works today if you want to have a fresh organization with new ideas. HR is not very helpful, any manager I had was not particularly helpful when i asked questions about wanting to get more experience and grow my career

Pros

At one time it was a mission-driven organization, where staff was rewarded for innovating in service of the mission and better client experience/outcomes; had a very familial environment

Cons

Over time with growth became totally bottom-line focused and cutthroat. Poor management with only nominal presence of values or mission. Real talent doesn't stick around long.

This is very disheartening to read. I hope that you were able to share more details as you departed so that we can learn more. If not or are willing to say more, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly as the head of HR at angela.cheng-cimini@harvardbusiness.org. I would be grateful for the opportunity.

Pros

Paycheck security. Note this is different from job security. My paycheck improved incrementally while my title remained the same and my work was continually devalued and my role made smaller and smaller. (My projects always succeeded, were always delivered on time, and I was generally viewed as competent and pleasant to work with.)

Cons

Toxic environment where poor behavior is swept under the rug. Senior management believe (and teach) that who you know is more important than what you know and how you do your work, so - as a previous post states - only favorites (always white, mostly men) are allowed opportunities or recognition. Aggressive punching down in private and in public is the norm. There are no objective standards for personnel. Everyone is afraid, and this too becomes the norm.

Thank you for the feedback you have provided. Given the efforts we have been taking to foster inclusivity and ensure that all employees feel that their voices are heard and they belong, it's disappointing and disturbing to hear that your employee experience does not align with the corporate culture. We never want any employee to feel they are working in a toxic environment. If you are willing to share, we would be interested in learning more. Please contact us at feedback@harvardbusiness.org.
