Pros

We genuinely have some interesting problems to solve and the dev team culture is good.

Cons

Hazelcast suffers from a lack of direction. The current leadership is hugely underwhelming and the morale is low everywhere. A duplicitous HR and an ill fitting CEO. Bizzarely a lawyer with zero credentials for success means multiple failures and exits of all competent team members. The team laughs and is insulted by his claims of being a coder and we are seeing back to back failures. It feels like a sinking ship and we are all looking to leave.

Rejoined Hazelcast - great people

Pros

I worked at Hazelcast previously and have rejoined. The people are great and I've learnt a lot from them - many are experts in their field, especially in Tech. I appreciate the remote work (which is hard to find now) and having autonomy in my work. It provides some creative freedom, and there's a sense of trust since we're working remotely. It's also an international company, so most teams are a mixture of people in different countries. I also had the opportunity to travel abroad with the whole Engineering Dept which was amazing.

Cons

It's more of a scale-up culture in the sense that it's fast-paced, there's autonomy in your work, and people are often wearing different hats. However, I prefer working in scale-ups because of less bureaucracy & more of a flat structure, so this works for me.

Strong technology, challenging market

Pros

The technology is extremely strong, with a great pedigree, and that has attracted a strong following of blue-chip FinServ customers. They use Hazelcast to manage use cases where databases just wouldn't be fast enough. Like payments, where response times need to be in the low milliseconds to be competitive. Hazelcast also does both caching of data and processing of data with its Jet stream processing engine. Jet is really useful for these kind of datasets as many of the operations are really stages of a pipeline. They have made some strong hires recently.

Cons

There have been many leadership changes in the last six months, but things seem to have stabilized now.
