Toxic Flop Syndrome

Pros

There are some talented individuals on staff and the app has genuinely helped a lot of people.

Cons

Never has my mental health been in a worse place than when I worked for Headspace. It's quite ironic that so much of their content centers around taking care of your mental health at work and promoting work life balance when Headspace as an organization is an unbearably toxic work environment. You will drive yourself crazy trying to make sense of the broken systems here. Nothing works or makes sense. The SLT is the axis of evil. The magic is gone, and the few people left that actually care about the mission or have any talent are being tortured on a daily basis. It's the epitome of corporate greed ruining a perfectly good thing, and there isn't even any real wealth to show for it. The company is a completely doomed flop, the app barely functions, and their resources are dwindling. Consumers have lost trust in the brand, and their B2B business is on its last legs. Run don't walk to work literally anywhere else on planet earth.

Pros

The coaching team is made up of incredibly kind, talented, and smart individuals who work hard to support members and each other. Learning and training opportunities are plentiful. Consistent feedback is provided and was helpful to grow as a coach.

Cons

Things shifted dramatically downhill when leadership changed. The care team that was once assured that they would be prioritized is now clearly expendable, and profit seems to be the sole priority at this point. It would be fantastic if the company were led by someone with mental healthcare (or even just healthcare) experience. Coaches are expected to provide excellent support for numerous members simultaneously, some of whom are high-acuity. Morale is plummeting, coaches are suffering, but it seems to be of no concern to the executives. It's disappointing to see such a decline in the quality of a company that felt like a unicorn in mental healthcare when I started. I trusted my instincts and left when the care team was no longer valued, and I see that I made the right choice. Pay was never stellar, but at least the benefits helped make up for that. Now, the benefits are vanishing.

Cons

Multiple layoff. Rollback of benefits that makes our job easier. Job instability. Lack of transparency. Management does not align with company values.
