Pros

My immediate co-workers were a lot of fun to work with. It was at least better than not having a job, though not by much. I did manage to pad my resume by working there for 2 years.

Cons

In the two years I worked for them They went through 6 managers, and 4 district managers. 2 of the managers were fired, one for theft, the other for sexual harassment, and all the rest of them quit. it was like watching rats flee a sinking ship. And, rats is just what they were. I have never met so many two-faced liars in my life. When I was hired in I was told I'd be making 9 dollars an hour, and there were good benefits, and holiday pay and, paid time off. I was paid 7.50 an hour, there were no benefits, no holiday pay, and no time off in the first year, and very little unpaid time off after that. They did start offering benefits after I had been there for a while, but at $500 a pay period I decided to decline that offer. They also refused to provide us with personal protective equipment. I worked in a kitchen with equipment that was mostly long past its prime, a lot of it was rigged together and barely worked. On top of that, the company couldn't afford to buy all the food needed to feed the residents in the nursing home, we always had to improvise, or buy things out of our own pockets. All of this added up to enough stress to give me ulcers, I have never had stomach issues in my life before this or since. I was 24 when I quit working for them.

Idiots in charge

Pros

Very few other than the joy of knowing you touched the lives of the residents in a very positive way.

Cons

The people in charge of overseeing the facility dietary managers don't have the appropriate experience to be in charge. In my case my district manager while having a CDM doesn't appear to have a degree. Worst of all is how the people in charge have no basis in food production or service what so ever. The training that is offered to new managers is almost non existent. The MIT program is a joke. Most new dietary managers are thrown into a facility with very little training and almost no support from the main company. Complaints about hostile work environment seem to be swept under the carpet by upper level executives. The company makes all kinds of promises with very little follow through. The most important thing that a dietary manager can remember is that residents have very little to look forward to, usually just two things, activities and the food. It is our job as managers to make that experience the best possible. HCSG has forgotten this and seems to view the relationship between the facility and the provider, HCSG as an advisarial one.

Absolute Joke of a Company.

Pros

After a couple years with the company I was able to make an above average salary

Cons

Where do I start?! In all honesty, I had never experienced a company like HSG. As account managers, we would get emails saying to cut labor hours and were also told to keep it a secret! The email specifically said to not discuss cutting the hours with anyone-including fellow managers. So basically, the contract would say that HSG would give the facility, say, 1000 labor hours, but as managers we were told to not go above 960! The benefits are a joke! Roughly $350-$400/check for a family medical plan. In 4 years, neither myself, nor any other manager that I knew, was once shown any form of gratitude, ALL you hear is negativity and details about all the things your doing wrong. The DM's usually are in their mid 20's and they must have been beaten up a lot in school, because now they feel like they hate a little power and they're some of the most arrogant people I've ever met in my life. Obviously, I've gone on quite a rant, but I honestly would not wish this job on my worst enemy-believe me, it's THAT BAD!!
