Pros

Potential to move up quickly, good place to gain multitasking and management experience to take with you to another job.

Cons

Low hourly pay for the amount of work expected. Commission structure is set up in a way that punishes you for customers that do not purchase coverages or upgrade instead of rewarding you for the times you do sell i.e. if 1 long term renter (2 weeks or more) decides to not get coverages or upgrade (which is wise since the charges are daily and can add up quickly) that contract cancels out the 5 other customers that DID buy coverages but only rented for 1 day. Basically you can sell on a majority of your contracts/customers (and bring in over $20,000 in revenue just from sales alone) but if you have a few long term contracts with nothing you can get paid $0 commission at the end of the month.

Pros

Managers get car privileges. The people are hard working. Upper management will not visit your branch if you hitting your sales numbers.

Cons

Always under staffed. After Hertz went public recently "the less staff the better" has become upper management's approach. They refer to the staff in the branches as "head count". The less heads the better! This creates big customer service issues because customers are forced to wait on long lines to get a car. No matter how many "heads" upper management gives you they aways demand a 20% increase in revenue year over year. Upper management overbooks reservations and don't come through with the cars to rent. This is another reason customers have to wait so long for their cars. Of course poor customers service scores fall on the Branch Managers and poor scores reduce the bonus you will receive.

Pros

Stepping stone entry level. Opportunities to learn management skills. Bonus can be rewarding sometimes. Resume builder.

Cons

Long hours are expected at all levels. Upper management lacks people and management skills required to operate a successful business. Employee development needs to be improved. Company focus is too one dimensional. Financials can magically change with zero explanation or accountability from corporate level (typically costing the lower level employees money). Employee moral as a whole is typically not high. Do not join Hertz with long term ambitions.
