Sweat Shop Work Environment

Pros

The company employs some wonderful people.

Cons

Sweat shop environment. Don't buy into Hobby Lobby's philosophy of being a Christian company who treats their employees accordingly. Managers work 65-75 hours weekly without it being the holiday season, as a co-manager and store manager you work 2 14 hour days a week with a half hour/hour lunch on those days...managers often open and close on those days all by themselves. This company is task, task, task...super killer employer for an individual with high work ethic. The company drives their employees like brutes...not exactly Christian in my book...more like slave treatment. Hobby Lobby's mission statement is " Honoring the Lord in all we do by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles. Serving our employees and their families by establishing a work environment and company policies that build character, strengthen individuals, and nurture families." DO NOT BUY INTO IT!!! Working employees to death and cruelty does not build character....

Pros

Great direct management. Great people to work with. Team work is valued. A good effort is made to create culture and respect.

Cons

I hired in on the last hiring group before a new store opened. The store manager was very professional and personable, great sense of humor and a honest leader. Corporate did not help the store to succeed and as a result, most of the workers that transferred in were transferred back out three months after opening. The employees that had made full time were knocked back to part time and the rest, myself included were let go. Corporate was shuffling around district managers at the time and their website stated an opening date for my store as December 2015. The store opened in June. Everyone I worked with was professional and really nice. I would have stayed with the company given the chance, but in hindsight my job was doomed to fail. The store did not have enough support and thus the sales could not sustain the workforce they hired and trained.
