Best Place To Work

Pros

Holyoke Medical Center is a great place to work. I have worked here for almost 3 years. I have found that they provide very competitive benefits and the lowest employee contributions in MA. HMC also offers a wellness reimbursement each year and free Zumba classes weekly. Plus, if you are interested in continuing your education, they offer one of the highest tuition and continuing education reimbursements I have ever seen. The hospital places safety, quality and patient satisfaction as the highest priority. Every person matters, every day. I am so proud to work for HMC and I actually look forward to going to work every morning. If you are looking for a place to work where you can make a difference and the goal is to provide the best place for care and the best place to work than HMC is the organization for you.

Cons

Sometimes parking can be a challenge, but there is an employee Valet service that is available each morning to park your car!

Thank you for sharing. We have some plans in the works to help with employee parking that should be noticeable in early 2020!

Toxic and energy draining

Pros

A pay check every week

Cons

Empathy is a recurring theme throughout the orientation but you will be hard-pressed to find very much it in the actual work environment. What you will find (at least where I work) is a very short-staffed environment with extremely high turnover lacking in integrity and professionalism. Staff is burned out and more than a few are walking on eggshells. Management and some staff thrive on gossip and toxicity. Bragging took place about the letting go of a ton of staff in an already stretched-thin work-setting (with many remaining staff at their breaking point). "Leadership" is fear-based (You'll never get genuine buy-in that way.). Regardless of what they sold and continue to sell, worklife balance and collaboration do not exist here. There are a few kind and wonderful people (not coincidentally, they too, stated they are unhappy.). For a caring profession, there are some markedly uncaring people (Their behavior would be called narcissistic by more than a few objective people.).

Holyoke Medical Center conducts an organization wide employee satisfaction survey every year. Well over 1,200 employees participate and provide anonymous feedback. 99% of our employees feel valued and respected. We are working hard to win over the 1% who don't.
