Pros

HSUS is a faset-paced mission driven organization and it is filled with committed professionals impatient for change. It adheres in fact and spirit to non-discriminatory, fair and impartial employment practices and regularly surveys its employees to ensure everyone is heard.

Cons

There is a high expectation of exceptional work. It is not "just a job" so prospective employees should either bring their A game of they will be frustrated fast.

Hi, thank you for your feedback. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Human Capital staff or our executive office if you have specific concerns or questions about your position and work environment. As you may be aware, we have taken steps in recent years to evaluate and improve our pay practices, as well as address other concerns that were raised through employee feedback. In relationship to pay, we use a number of factors to determine pay level, such as experience, education, and internal equity. Because our offices are older buildings, we recognize that some areas are darker due to the configurations. We are a nonprofit organization and use our donors’ contributions wisely, so of course we do not have lavish buildings or accommodations; but we do want to make sure the work space we have is as attractive and appealing as possible to our staff. We have been working over the past few years to update and make changes that improve the space at both of our locations. As you may know, we are planning to move the downtown D.C. office next summer, which will result in a much more modern work space for the staff in that location and for visiting staff. We are certainly open to other ideas, if you have any suggestions for how we can make other changes, so please reach out!
