Great company, great goals, awesome people. I learned a ton, had a great time, and participated in a lot of awesome events even as an intern.

Cons

Low salaries and a very slow hiring process were two things that were mentioned around the office. I personally didn't encounter any cons, but I was there only very briefly.

Pros

We're all insanely passionate and dedicated to the cause. This isn't just a job, it's a lifestyle.

Cons

The salary is far below market levels which is leading to a HUGE turnover rate and overall decreased morale. Employees that do not pull their own weight aren't addressed; workloads are increasingly unbalanced. Extremely limited opportunities for growth, challenges, etc.

Pros

The HSUS is a huge force in the world of animal welfare, and serving the mission was one of the best things about working there. Great camaraderie and a creative work environment.

Cons

They need to work on top-down communications, and the pay is a huge issue. I don't know how they expect people to live in an expensive city like Washington, DC for what they pay. I believe the low pay leads to a lot of turnover in certain areas.
