Huntington’s business practices are so outdated and backwards (even their CFO has to clock in). They rely on aggressive sales tactics and pressure families to take out loans and pay several thousand dollars up front for programs with over-inflated recommended hours. I often heard “if they cry they buy” and it was celebrated when parents would cry because management made a convincing case for why their child needs help.
They claim that tutoring and “academic skill building” programs are individualized and prescribed to each student’s academic needs, but management can and will change the “prescribed” hours to make a more convincing sales pitch or to try to get more money from families.
For management, hours are long and inflexible. For teachers, hours are few and far between.
Here are some fun facts you might learn while working at Huntington. -A wall in directors offices is painted red to “induce anxiety” during sales meetings (Yes that’s a direct quote) -In training they will teach you how to use College Board’s website to gather college info and pass it off as your own. -They use outdated tests to evaluate students and will always have an explanation why a student needs help (I’ve seen people leave out the assessments students performed well on) -Franchise growth is a huge priority and as long as franchisees “don’t damage the brand” (another direct quote from corporate) they can do what they please, which basically means low standards for franchise owners. -Because payments are often collected in full, up front, some families unknowingly leave balances of hundreds or thousands of dollars when they stop attending
Of course they help kids, which is great. But this is not about their academic programs. It’s about Huntington as an employer and their lack of standards and values. They consistently put profits before employees. Save yourself the time and find a job elsewhere. Tell your friends!
