Feels like a job, not a career

Pros

I work with great people on my team. We do a lot of interesting work, and I constantly feel challenged here. I learn something new every day at my job, and throughout the time I've worked at Hyland I've developed my skillls immensely.

Cons

Our team is very overloaded with work. We're a small team to begin with, but our workload seems to constantly increase, no matter how much we get done or how fast. I often feel like the volume and complexity of the work I do is not understood or appreciated outside of my immediate colleagues and teammates. Additionally, I feel like there is no room for me to grow within the company. With the current freeze on technical promotions, and coming from a small team, I feel like the message I'm getting is "keep taking on more work as if you were being promoted, but without the benefits of actually being promoted."

Pluses and minuses

Pros

I like the flexibility in hours, the onsite fitness facilities, and the suburban location. Many of the people are friendly and hard-working.

Cons

Pay is quite low in my experience. I feel that the culture of fun and games is better suited towards young employees (which Hyland seems to prefer). Hyland needs more mature leadership and more mature, experienced people in development, testing, etc. Benefits could be far more substantial, like better medical, include maternity/paternity, a retirement plan, etc. I am often pressured to work more than 40 hours per week (with overtime pay) I am often pressured to participate in off-hours team gatherings and activities; Hyland does not seem to understand that not everyone is into these kinds of things. Any attitude short of bubbly and rah-rah is viewed as non-supportive. The statements about Values and being a family is in my opinion all smoke and mirrors.

Pros

if you are one of the few tenured people left, you know how great this company was.

Cons

look at how OLD the "greatest places to work here" are - ends at 2017. that marks the dare that the company started going downhill. nepotism, favoritism, personal agendas all started to rule. now it's substandard pay for substandard work - still waiting to see how jobsourcing to India is going to pan out. run away. don't walk run.
