Pros

IBT offers an easy-to-hit bonus structure, which is really the only thing that makes up for the shekels the company pays their writers and editors.

Cons

Low pay with little to no opportunity for raises, the company is entirely driven by traffic which means writers don't get to cover stories that are meaningful or fulfilling, but rather ones that will get clicks, constant surprise layoffs (the company went from a full thriving news room to just a few writers in entertainment, sports and media & culture).

Avoid International Business Times

Pros

The few remaining journalists at International Business Times, the food carts near the company's Lower Manhattan office and the cafeteria on the 16th floor.

Cons

The company's instability. It's not clear what the purpose of IBT Media is. Is it essentially a source of cash for cult leader David Jang and his Olivet University? Is it a serious attempt to create an authoritative voice of international business news? Is it just a news aggregator?

Pros

They hire a lot of people straight out of college, and full time writing jobs are hard to find, so a lot of smart people get their start here before quickly moving on to something more legit. Depending on the website you write for, you'll likely have a lot of independence. Very high turnover so if you stay you'll probably get promoted quickly (but never get a raise). PR events and freebies. Worked from home often.

Cons

The company's finances are a mess so your paychecks are often late by days, weeks or even over a month. Raises are constantly promised but never materialize. Pay is low. Mass layoffs with no warning. Unmeetable traffic goals.
