Pros

A prestigious industry, will look good on your resume.

Cons

An archaic way of running a business, rude old-school management style kills work culture, no performance reviews, command-and-control is pretty much all they know, employees are not listened to. Patriarchal, classist, nepotistic.

Pros

Very friendly, engaging and hardworking team members, whether on production floor or in engineering.

Cons

Even with competent project managers, multi-level corporate politics, lofty promises to customers and misdirected micro-management leads to poor project execution, large lead times on BOMs and unrealistic deadlines. This leaves everyone on the involved teams with skewed time-frames and a consistently volatile workload.

Pros

Company is doing very well, compensation is good, great profit sharing. Have new and exciting projects.

Cons

Project management fails to engage people who have joined the company with valuable previous experience in system design decisions would rather try and figure it out. One must hunt down these discussions and try to get invited to be heard. Legacy software product has many problems but unwilling to allow major updates and refactoring to improve. Instead must try to make minimal changes within a struggling system. Software lead is systems engineer who is limited in knowledge of software language and implementation practices. Discussions of implementation and design decisions often come down to "lead's common sense" but it is not rooted in software. Lead is not focused on software but also provides system support to other areas of the company. All software has to be reviewed by lead which given the lack of focus, slows all development down.
