Do your research on company and management

Pros

Depending on your role, there can be more autonomy. It is a small company there are so many opportunities to do different things. Products are good. Some strong people in the US. Benefits are good.

Cons

Tons of bureaucracy and "over"sight from France. We do not have the best talent on either side of pond. High turnover - either firings or the best talent moving on. Lots of dead wood, catty people who are not productive and do the bare minimum. Blame culture. Leadership and vision is lacking. No stock options.

Thank you for your review. I think the title of your post is very true; everybody should research a company before they join it. As you know there have been some big changes in senior management and the culture is changing too. I believe that the cons you list are firmly entrenched in the past and that they do not represent the direction that we are heading in. We agree that our people are the best contributors to our culture and IPSEN strengthens its culture one great hire at a time, and you are right: good leaders do attract and help retain the best talent, so we try our best to attract and develop great leaders. However I’m not sure what you mean when you speak of ‘the rank and file’, ‘warm bodies’ and ‘vicious people’; I’ve never heard a manager or a leader refer to anyone of their colleagues in those terms so I think we will struggle to help you ‘discern the difference’ here. How do you suggest we fix this? Going back to your title, if you researched the company today would get the same results that you would have found a year ago, two years? I doubt it. I believe that this serves as evidence that we are getting better and we are on the right track to being great. This is our journey and an adventure and you are welcome to take part in it.

Pros

Good compensation and benefits. Work/life balance is acceptable.

Cons

No personal growth opportunities, too much politics, micromanagement, empty pipeline, management is not able to make decisions and take responsibility, Talented scientists with a passion for science and drug development are leaving because of lack of leadership opportunities and unhealthy arrogant environment.

Terrible experience

Pros

There were no pros to highlight that are of any significance. Offensive manager who liked the sound of her own voice.

Cons

Sales managers are struggling to create change and they do not have the interpersonal skills to get the best out of their KAMs. They were brought in to help the business in 2016 and they have put themselves on a very high pedestal. One was particularly offensive, rude and full of loathing for the staff she inherited. She alienated herself from her subordinates & created fear. Their oncology drug is a commodity & they are trying to sell to specialists who really aren't interested.
