Pros

-Fantastic co-workers -Great benefits (can find same benefits at any tech company) -Free drinks and espresso machine -Work from home (only available to their most appreciated roles) -Unlimited PTO

Cons

-Low pay -Made money for other people -Micromanaged -Upper management does not listen to their employees -Hires entry level to give them minimal pay -No career pathway -Revolving door environment (anything more than 1 year at this company is considered long) -Office atmosphere is dead (the people who are permitted to work from home do so one or twice per week) -Repetitive, mindless work -COO and CEO do not collaborate and it shows between the sales and engineering teams -Company promotes education but offers nothing to help teachers who cannot afford the program -Poor onboarding -Internal operations is horrible - too many grey areas between different roles

Pros

Product in some ways and teammates in same position.

Cons

Company places no value on employees and conveys how easily replaceable you are. There is no effort to create a positive work culture from upper management. The same group of people refuses to treat people like adults and instills a lack of trust and need to micromanage on pointless tasks. Career paths and development are promised for years but never delivered as they have no interest in developing you as an individual. Speaking up results in being shamed across the office as if in high school. Office first culture is the opposite of flexible and inhibits full productivity in many ways. You will always be asked what you are doing to support customers but never given any additional resources to do so. Commission and payment are not just below market average but completely unethical for specifically account management. At least 50% of the work I did upselling customers was not reflected in my commission due to rules in place based on conscious decisions from above. While data and numbers viewable to employees was also never fully accurate or trustworthy. I would never recommend this as a place to work and could make just as much money teaching in the same area they have an office. So disappointing as there is so much potential.

Terrible people at the top

Pros

The company is profitable, allegedly.

Cons

- The CEO and COO have ultimate decision making power (there is no board of directors), do not value diversity and inclusion at all, and organize the company so that people tackling similar problems can't connect with one another. - There is no feedback about the product in the form of user research or data (these teams don't exist at IXL). All decisions are made top down. No change is tested, it's all up to the senior leadership. - Any concerns raised by the staff or users are silenced and silo'd. They do not want to hear feedback, they just want you to fall in line and do your job. Every day, students who use IXL complain about it on their social media and the comments just get deleted. - If you get acquired by IXL, as now ~8 companies have, they will completely gut your company. They have no foresight when it comes to restructuring the companies they acquire, laying people off while having open job posting for their same role. When laying people off, they tried to get people to sign severance deals that misrepresented what they promised, offering the bare minimum but describing it as a great severance package.
