Pros

I've been at IXL a few years and have nothing but positives to say. It isn't the typical tech company, meaning people here are down to earth, genuine and easy to collaborate with. In essence there is little of the annoyances that happen at other companies such as people's egos and processes that waste time.

Cons

I wanted to write this review because some of the reviews people have left in no way resemble the company as I've experienced it. For context, IXL acquires one or more companies a year, usually more it seems, and some of these companies are in bad shape. IXL early this year acquired TPT and laid off 100 people in order to save the company. It's sad these former employees who caused their company to be in such bad shape are lashing out.

Pros

* Reasonable salary * Competitive benefits * Lots of great coworkers at the individual contributor level

Cons

IXL has been on a buying spree for the past few years. Unfortunately, the CEO and COO haven't learned how to either delegate or communicate. They don't provide effective feedback, then respond negatively when you don't manage to read their minds. As an example of the kind of problems their refusal to delegate cause, the COO is responsible for every hiring decision across the company. She doesn't bother to actually meet with any candidates, but will ignore hiring recommendations when it suits. While employees on the IXL product generally have a long tenure, they are pretty ruthless with their acquisitions. Do not expect to have a long and happy career with IXL if they acquire your employer.

Pros

They have a lot to offer with all the companies that they own. They are intensely focused on their outcomes and providing value to their customers. They have a great core product and lots of other great education products.

Cons

Very corporate. Decision making is from the top down. Poor treatment and understanding during layoffs.
