Great project management and colleagues in a fun environment
Pros
The technology we work on at ColdQuanta is deeply intellectually stimulating. We're at the forefront of turning cutting-edge academic techniques into robust products for an excited market. In many cases, we're producing our own "academic" advances in parallel with bringing useful products to market. The team ColdQuanta has built is stellar. Folks are incredibly bright and collaborative - working hand-in-hand on tough problems with strong IQ and EQ - making it a wonderful environment to work in. When I'm stuck, a chat with someone who can get me past an obstacle is nearby. We also host regular internal meetings that help folks learn important skills on a broad range of topics, making ColdQuanta a wonderful place to learn and grow, regardless of your background. All you need is some motivation! I have also been very impressed with the project management infrastructure. We spend some effort on tracking tasks, defining success critera, and checking in on progress and blockages daily. It adds a little overhead, but it saves a tremendous amount of time in cases where you'd be headed in the wrong direction. I have found it to substantially increase my productivity and boost my confidence.
Cons
ColdQuanta has ambitious goals and timelines. We can find ourselves sprinting to make up for schedule slippages in a way that makes it a little more difficult to strike an ideal work-life balance. I confidently expect that to settle as the company matures over the next year or two. ColdQuanta's transition from a grant house towards a revenue-generating business also comes with a lag in certain benefits, like a lackluster parental leave policy. Management is at least highly receptive to this kind of feedback and I do expect this to change in the future.
