Pros

Great office culture with great people to work with. Generous PTO. Very flat management structure that empowers new employees. High level of excellence that will push you to grow as a professional.

Cons

Casual setting can sometimes be so casual that employee comments and conduct can border on inappropriate. Some of the clients are large corporations that don't seem to align with Instruments mission and values.

Great place to grow if you’re proactive

Pros

Great client list with interesting work. Good work-life balance for an agency. Self motivation and hard work is rewarded. Director level developers and designers are involved in the work and tend not to be gatekeepers. Great producers. Partners are open about the business and decisions. Flexible process. People are friendly. Fun team off sites. Dogs.

Cons

Path to growth can be unclear and mentorship varies from team to team. Employee reviews are infrequent so it’s up to an employee to get more feedback. Each team is different and it can be difficult moving from one to another. Pay is good for Portland but bonuses are rare. The money goes to the top, same as everywhere. Dogs.

Manageable, but unmanaged

Pros

– Talented designers and developers – Glamourous clientele – Manageable workload (one project at a time)

Cons

– Reviews are held with the principal partners, who only communicate with you during your review. Feedback is vague without context and rarely actionable. – Company culture is centered around cliques and alcohol. – Employees are encouraged to date one another.
