Pros

Some truly talented and humble people. The work is generally executed at a very high level and you'll work with some of the best brands out there.

Cons

Leadership at an executive level is arrogant and disconnected from the rest of the business. Some longer tenured employees have an outsized influence on the culture and while leadership generally talks a good game, they very rarely follow through with action. The environment is particularly toxic for women and BIPOC which is made all the worse because they claim to care so much about creative a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace. Instrument is also very "Portland centric" which means it is actually completely disconnected from the tech companies that comprise the bulk of its client base.

Pros

There are some really great people.

Cons

Instrument has gotten really good at marketing so they are great at pretending to care. They will do the bare minimum when they get caught with their pants down but that's as good as it gets. The problem comes from the very top so as long as those in C-Suite stay, it will not get better.

Pros

Early career professionals are going to find a lot of opportunities to grow. Most of it will be doing creative work making videos and websites for interesting or well known brands.

Cons

Instrument is very producer-led, so career growth in the other disciplines has a very low ceiling. Pay is generally below market, so shop around for other offers. The biggest drawback will be working under a leadership team that is almost completely homegrown. There’s a lot of disorganization and overthinking that could be avoided by hiring people with senior experience at better run agencies. Worst of all, it really does feel like high school. It sounds like a petty gripe, but it is true and it’s an example set at the top.
