Pros

-Good opportunities to experience a lot and just in general learn about how business and large corporations function -Given a lot of autonomy and decision making power -Nice Campus -Overall the company seems to be heading in the right direction

Cons

Refused to pay me what my peers made for the same job because I was younger. They tried to claim experience was the reason, but I literally took over the job from someone who was getting paid 30%+ more and I was performing above expectations. I advocated for my team when issues arose and got approval to hire direct reports that I then managed. All that but still couldn't justify the next pay grade which is really just what they paid the last guy and everyone else with that title. Got all the responsibility with none of the payoff. Big company culture and vibe, a bit subjective but it was not for me.

Pros

At one point earlier in my career at Navistar, I had the best manager ever.

Cons

I’ve had many managers at Navistar but only one good one. Just like other reviews, I’ve never seen so much micro managing going on - constantly calling personal phone during the day, night, and weekends. Old school mentality with buddy system management. Promotions are hard to come by since your micro manager does not want you to go to save headcount. Far too many management layers. Senior leadership and other managers can be heard cussing each other and talking about other employees. I thought this would be the company I stay with long term but not anymore - your management is terrible Navistar! Oh and if you make a complaint to HR, forget them taking it seriously or doing anything about it. The company claims to care, provides training on it to management but total opposite when a concern is raised (harassment, bullying, etc). Had a managers survey last year and results were given all the way down to directors. None of us pions heard the results, instead it was swept under the rug because it was so bad and embarrassing!

Pros

Close to expressway. Easy access to expressway.

Cons

STAY AWAY! Directors and above lack the skills of doing their jobs and the ones several levels underneath. Most directors / level 8 and those above only got to their roles because they were “FODs” = Friends of Dan who was the prior ousted CEO Dan Ustian. This nepotism exists across all functions from Engineering to finance to legal. This place is by far a meritocracy. Once Directors know you are smart and capable they will use you and cast you out of meetings so they can take the credit for your hard work. They will then keep you at your level 6 or 7 grade level until they don’t need you anymore. You will not get promoted despite their false promises.
