Large corporation with lots of chance for career moves. Long standing reputation in the industry. Many loyal customers and a great dealer network.

Cons

In process of turning things around but in kind of a bad place right now. Recently lost a lot of good people from engineering organization.

OK Pay and Benefits, Highly Resistant to Change

Pros

Pay is decent, as are benefits, new hires are generally upbeat and excited to do well. Corporate headquarters are outstanding -- cafeteria is awesome!

Cons

Upper management believes themselves to be incapable of error, middle management tends to seek to maintain the status quo, rather than challenge it with new ideas (people don't get promoted or rewarded for rocking the boat, even if their ideas turn out to be good in the long run). Despite a desire to be innovative, the company hangs onto old ideas too long. Bonuses are rarely fully funded, so even if one exceeds expectations, they receive less than the bonus they are promised.

Lots of Change

Pros

The people that work at Navistar are great. There is a wide mix of experience that brings a good balance of past knowledge and new enthusiasm. Navistar is a company that is revolutionizing itself. Also the new facility at Lisle is awesome.

Cons

While they are revolutionizing, it is painfully challenging. Many people want to push forward new ideas and different ways to do business but many also don't want to change a thing. In the past year, the chaos related to layoffs and reorganizaiton has taken a tremendous toll on moral. Additionally, titles and pay scales are not equivalent across the organization for similar amounts of work.
