Pros

Great mission to advance genetic testing and healthcare. Interesting work. For the most part, people are great. Smart and helpful. Flexible work-life balance. Good offering of resources and perks.

Cons

One's happiness depends on which team you are part of. Not consistent across the company and some teams are better than others. Turnover is high. Signs of trouble brewing? Can be a bit chaotic at times though that is to be expected in a fast moving environment. Communication can be an issue.

Pros

- I can’t think of a single role that has more than 1 “manager” between them and the CEO. - Time off policy is “take what you need” and can be exercised without guilt - employees have complete control over when they work as long as they are fulfilling their job - leadership provides clear vision and left to the employees to execute how they see fit. - feedback is extremely honest at all employee levels and work relationships are very iterative - the software teams are small and have complete autonomy over their own systems. - the constant reminder that you are working on something that will have a direct impact the quality of someone’s life is helpful when you are trying to stay focused on your work.

Cons

- can be chaotic at times - there is no mentoring program or career growth plan. There’s plenty of opportunity, but you have to figure out your own path that doesn’t put yourself above the team at any point - can be a struggle for people who don’t fit into the directness / DIY culture. The CEO encourages the company to be a “team not a family”. If you need the emotional support of a family at the workplace, Invitae might be a struggle.
