Pros

There's a few things that make Invitae the best company I've ever worked for. And, for the record, I've worked in a lot of companies, some of them great: ~ Helping people. Invitae's mission is a wonderful one, and in the few years that I've been here, there has been many many people whose lives we saved. These are real people, you can look them in the eyes and know that you did Good. To me, this is a big deal. ~ Exciting technology. At Invitae, we're riding the wave of innovation in genetic sequencing and computation. We never get bored. It's an incredible amount of fun to be a part of a rapidly developing field. ~ We're treated like adults. Accross. The. Board. The vacation policy is "take vacation." No-one tracks hours and days accrued. We're trusted to get our work done, take the time off that we need, and no-one's constantly looking over our shoulder. There's tons of examples of this.

Cons

Being a startup in a highly regulated field (medicine) produces a unique set of challenges.

Great company to work for

Pros

Terrific leadership, great snacks, competitive salaries, flexible time off/work from home opportunities, and very open workplace. Transparency on how the company is run.

Cons

It's a very DIY environment, so it can be difficult to jump in and get started. It's also hard to know who to talk to about certain problems sometimes. There are no real internal titles, which can be good in the sense that it makes people feel that they're equals, but make things unclear when it comes to who you're supposed to be reporting to.
