Perfect for the right person

Pros

Invitae is a perfect environment for the right person. It is not very hierarchical, which lets newer employees get in, get their hands dirty, and advance quickly in responsibility and compensation. The performance system based on peer review and analytics cuts through some of the things that make established companies stifling. If you're self-motivating and ready to work, there's few places out there with as much opportunity.

Cons

Not everyone fits here. as some of the negative reviews clearly show. If you're used to coming in, doing what you've been told, and going home, Invitae might not be the right place for you. If you're used to a lot of structure, clear swim-lanes, and well defined roles and responsibilities, you'll be in for an adjustment (at the very least).

Pros

I enjoyed working at Invitae and learned a great deal. On-the-job training was excellent, as was the team environment.

Cons

Given that Invitae is a public company, expect changes to be swift. Roles and policies change quickly and frequently.

Pros

A place where lots of talented people who are passionate about genetics and healthcare. Dynamic group of people who are not afraid to talk about the unmentionable, aka the recent layoff. Engaging management that is trying hard to preserve transparency but the middle management lacks the same effort.

Cons

Growing pains typical of a start up turned small business, regulated and volatile industry
