Pros

Good People Good Mid-Managers Good Projects

Cons

At my previous job at JCB, the work-life balance was nonexistent, with excessive micromanagement and top-down control resembling a 1970s management style. The lack of overtime pay despite encouragement to exceed contracted hours and strict clock-in/clock-out policies for non-industrial staff eroded trust. The limited flexibility in core hours and minimal annual leave days available for booking made it a challenging place to thrive. Additionally, a blaming culture prevailed, which was far from ideal. For anyone considering a role there, I'd recommend using it solely for gaining experience before seeking better opportunities elsewhere. It seemed like a futile investment of time. There are plenty of engineering organisation bigger than JCB and better than JCB, my current organization values overtime pay, offers remote work options, allows autonomy as long as project goals are met, and provides a refreshing schedule with no work on Fridays and a half-day on Thursdays. The reduced 35-hour workweek creates a much more conducive and balanced work environment.

Pros

- There are some really good people in this business who give their all, despite the way they are treated. - They pay well, but thats also a curse.

Cons

- Control and dictatorship is rife - There is a huge gap in capability at Leadership level across the business, from the very top down. This is having a big impact on the business and there is a level of arrogance (everyone thinks they are the best!) that is killing this great British brand - I have NEVER ONCE heard a good word said about the CEO, even his own leadership team don’t respect him and talk about him behind his back to anyone who will listen. He’s a laughing stock. - I have never heard the words misogynistic and narcissistic used so much in an organisation. - The bullying culture is awful, you are treated like school children and any professional opinions you must keep to yourself or you’re out (if they don’t comply with the JCB Way) - no one wants to hear about the bullying and harassment, or sexual harassment nor do they address it. When you raise this you are told to be quiet or they get rid of you (I’ve seen it with my own eyes). Which means no one dares to raise formal issues because they have seen people lose their jobs for doing so. - someone said to me recently, “the way I cope here is that I leave my brain at the door when I clock on, and put it back in when I go home. They just want robots”. I think that says it all - This business is making people mentally ill!

Pros

Lovely country setting with landscaped gardens. If you are lucky enough to make it to senior managment you wil be paid really well!

Cons

Retrenchment takes place at least every 2 years; no flexibility, all holidays are fixed; old school management culture of "my way or no way"; don't value employees, invest rather in contractors; performance bonuses are restricted to management; poor benefits....the list goes on!
