Store Manager

Pros

Other store managers and your staff are awesome! Bts and Holiday pay are sweet. You get to hear feedback everyweek on your performance.

Cons

Never expect to see your friends and family anymore. Do you like holidays and Family traditions? Or how about a random weekend off? Don't you get used to it. You will work 6 days a week and up to but not limited to 65 hours a week. You can make a lot of money but not a lot of money per hour. Your personal life will take a hit friends you used to have will stop calling because you are always busy or just too stressed to hangout with. Oh and that weekly feedback while always welcome its usually going to feel like a punch in the stomach because even if you do great they are going to tell you that you have to do better somewhere and that you suck at something.

Great if you have no family

Pros

Great way to earn money through salesmanship. Districts and regions act as families. Senior management has great wisdom. Incentive trips to sales meeting yearly.

Cons

Middle management, as in district managers especially, have too high of expectations for lower volume stores. That sentiment hits a new high if your store is in the same area as higher volume cities. Conversion and SOP's are used as a blame game for why a store isn't advancing, not a tool to improve upon. District managers have used group chat apps to post inappropriate content that shames managers publicly. 60 + hour work weeks during back to school time and 4th quarter. Micromangement of schedules via district managers.

Pros

I love the culture this company brings. I have never worked with so many wonderful people in my life. In order for you to succeed at Journeys, you have to work hard. The people that you work with are just as hard working. Team work is key for this job and I can definitely say I have built life long friendships. I "quit" the company about a year ago but somehow I couldn't seem to stay away. I loved the job it's self (because I love shoes and talking to people) but I also love and respect the people I work with. It's a great entry level management job. I learned so much about myself and how to manage a store and people. It's a great experience and will make you thankful for the little things in life.

Cons

The company over works their employees and under pays them. In the short year and a half I worked as a manager, I was forced to miss so many family functions and life events. I was lucky if I even got one day off work....Your life will be based around Journeys. You will work 70hour weeks and only make roughly $1500 paychecks every two weeks. For me, it sound great because who doesn't like walking away with that much money except when you break down how many hours your on your feet with no breaks? Definitely wasn't worth it for me. You only get 1 weeks paid vacation after you work a year. The turn over rate is extremely high so you are constantly understaffed. There was always to much stress on management. Store managers are not only in charge of scheduling, store maintenance, and hiring and firing staff, you are expected to maintain a personal sales goal that's usually higher than anyone else in the store because you are the one working the most. During the slow months, you will work 9-9 by yourself because the company will not allow you to staff anyone else.
