Pros

- Incredible team. Everyone on my immediate team is responsible, communicative, and holds themselves accountable. The entire Kapost team embodies the policies of "stronger when we row together," which makes working with this team inspiring. - Huge potential for growth—both on a personal/professional level as well as the company at large. I have always been encouraged to pursue areas that do not directly fall under my role, as long as there is value for the company. This has allowed me to gain experience and education that otherwise could have been shut down as "that's not your job." - As a marketer, you learn amazing skills. You learn the in's and out's of a fantastic platform that will likely be widespread throughout marketing teams, are daily tasked with understanding how marketers can be better, and get to spend your time talking to an audience of essentially you. - Great office culture. This largely speaks to the great people mentioned above, but also goes beyond that. Dogs are allowed in the office, it's a great location, and there are fun start-up culture things: team building, weekly lunches, snacks, etc.

Cons

- First, a pro/con: This is not an easy offering to sell—and each team is responsible for selling it. Kapost is not a point solution and takes a great deal of vision and understanding, which all teams truly have to get on board with. This makes the job challenging, though not necessarily in a bad way. - The team is lean in terms of resourcing. Budget items that seem necessary for growth get denied more often than approved. Pay is below market, which affects retention, which has led to slow growth on teams that are constantly onboarding. Caveat: Employee concern over salary has been acknowledge by leadership after a company-wide survey revealed it, though I have yet to see them do anything tangible to address it. It's possible they are working on a better plan for the next fiscal year, but it (understandably) depends on company performance and revenue.

Pros

- Every person is respected and able to truly contribute to the momentum of the company - We have an amount of flexibility that encourages you to work hard so you may live a life outside of the office, get your work done and deliver - that's all that is asked - The amount of talent and empathy inside this work community is astronomical - There is an org chart, but all are treated with respect and your voice and opinion is always heard - If something is broken we fix it - The company encourages you to be an individual and a human so that you may succeed both in your work and professional lives

Cons

- We are agile, things change a lot - but only as a way to continuously improve

Smart, fun team but organization lacks vision and discipline

Pros

My positive experiences are largely team specific. There were extremely smart and caring people throughout the company. Individuals worked very hard to exceed expectations and cared about helping their colleagues succeed. At least for my team, building and maintaining culture was a high priority, not just something to pay lip service to. In general, Kapost was a fun company where good friendships developed and employees had generous work-life balance.

Cons

The biggest con for me was that the company lacked vision and the discipline to see one through. In my few years there, I went through multiple, abrupt pivots. It felt as if the exec team regularly made decisions out of desperation and as a result, dug itself deeper into desperation. Additionally, while there were a few great leaders at Kapost, management often behaved like a boys' club and that behavior trickles down as a result. There was also really high turnover at Kapost; it seemed as if someone awesome was leaving every week (occasionally with a bit of scandal). Those that stayed seemed driven to do so because of the generous work-life balance and to feed their egos, not because they cared about improving the product or the content marketing community. While work-life balance is great, pay is notably below market. At first this seemed like a good compromise but since leaving, I've learned it's remarkably, almost offensively, lower.

Kapost Response

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback. It’s great that you enjoyed the team you started with at Kapost and that you had a good work-life balance while you were here. Of course, as a growing company, there are points where we do have to make changes to support our growth and our customers. This means that new teams have to be put into place, and roles shifted to allow us to expand. Even though these changes are a natural part of growth, I hear they may not have been a great fit for you, and at points may have felt challenging. I am sorry to hear you felt as if the leadership team behaved as a “boys’ club”. As a member of the leadership team at Kapost, and a woman, that has not been my experience. The team takes our core values seriously and works steadily to create a great culture where all people are heard and supported. While we sometimes get it wrong, we work to course correct when we do and are very open to continuing to improve and grow. Please email HR at peopleops@kapost.com if you have any suggestions to help us be better. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
