Pros

Work environment is great. No micro-managing, flexible dress code (meaning no uniform, just shirt/tie/slacks) and minimal sales goals in contrast with competitors. Relationship based approach, less clients with more from each. You get to know people really well, tellers know all the clients names.

Cons

Lots of changes the last few years. They don't make it very easy to follow all corporate protocols as well as meet your sales goals. For example, they tell us to be selective when opening new accounts, but then place outrageous goals like 1 account per day. I can't be selective with that level of production.

Great Company to Work for

Pros

KeyBank is a great company for anyone working in the Banking industry. The Benefits are are far by the best I have seen and heard of even starting as a New Employee. There are some great team members and mentors available. Depending which department you work, there is different sorts of flexibility for the employees. Also, as an investor it's a great bank to invest in.

Cons

Biggest Issue is Communication. With the way the economy is layoffs are going on left and right. But they don't communicate this to the employees properly. Second biggest is the HR. HR is horrible at KeyBank, specially for the internal employees. They never respond. However, as an external candidate they put you on top priority list. There is a real sour taste and the atmosphere is very worrisome as employees don't know what's going to happen next week.

On Your Own & Lack of Training

Pros

Could be a good stepping stone for a career but...

Cons

The Risk Operations Department is a highly dysfunctional work environment. Training is low quality compared to other company on boarding programs. Senior Management is clueless and sets unrealistic expectations and expects the work get done by whatever means. No work life balance and incompetent Senior Management. The Director of this Department needs to listen to the front line staff to figure out how to curtail the turnover of good talent. It is the lack of quality department training and out of touch upper management that's holding results back. Going to work here everyday is a nightmare and I cannot wait to use my skill set elsewhere.
