In fact, most of the nurses go through at least 3 interviews, have criminal background checks, reference checks, employee health drug screen and fit tests, then a comprehensive orientation program. If the managers are aware of staff who are practicing unsafe medicine, they take action as patient safety is Lee Health's #1 priority. At the same time, managers cannot have eyes on all staff at all times. This is why we learn in orientation to be the eyes and ears of our team mates so we can deliver high quality patient service.
