When you go to the new hire on-boarding you're told how great the organization is; tons of room for career growth they say. The reality is unless you've got an "in" with the hiring manager in the department you're looking to transfer into or you get exceptionally lucky your room for growth is extremely limited. I joined Legacy because I wanted to work in a healthcare environment and put my education and experience to good use.
Even with nearly a decade of experience in my field & a graduate school degree I'm still working in a position that requires only a high school diploma. I've reached out to department managers who had open positions and have never once had a response back. When I try calling that goes no where either. I've heard the same story from MANY fellow employees that I've spoken with across multiple departments. It all comes down to who you know.
It's unfortunate that the career growth potentials are so limited; I took a step down in pay because I believed in the image that the company portrayed and hoped to move up internally. I have an excellent manager, honestly the best manager I've ever had but I'm at the top of my payscale and can no longer progress in the organization. I'm already actively applying elsewhere but hope something pans out before I leave the organization entirely.
