Pros

The job itself was wonderful. I enjoy retail and customer service. My employees were the best. If you like to mix and mingle with your customers and make them.want to keep shopping with you then this is the place to be.

Cons

The company itself is contradicting and corrupt. They pull you in with promises of promotions and raises only to drop you like a piano out of a window and tell you they don't do raises only bonuses or incentives. And the bonuses are less then what they take from taxes. The DM's have their picks and chooses and most of the chooses are males. The females are overlooked and underpaid. They are thrown a pile of work and told to call if help is needed but thee is no answer. Rules are given and only a few are threatened to uphold them. The job is fine. The company will not.last long under these conditions. They only concentrate on sales instead of the happiness and well being of staff which will result in loss/gain of sales. Managers are told they have to work every holiday but salary isn't enough to compensate for the work load. The store managers salary is only $24k for women and $26k for men. Cashiers make.more then the store managers do at other companies.

Pros

If you like talking sports to strangers, Lids is a good place to work. Decent discount on products. Hard to find anything else nice to say.

Cons

All politics. DMs have no feel for how stores are ran on a day to day basis. They rarely check in on under performing stores. Only store managers bonus off of embroidery and locate sales. FT assistants only bonus on budget, so there is no real incentive for anyone but the SM to push emb sales. Yet to meet a single manager who sticks up for their employees. Everyone under SM is prone to get thrown under the bus. They tell you that, in order to be promoted, it's all based on the scorecard, but it's all based on who you know, not what you know. Turnover is horrendous. Pay is horrible for the responsibilities you have as an assistant . They undervalue employees. There is no direct communication to DMs. No training on anything. It's all learn it yourself, mostly because those in charge are clueless. Very far behind on technological advancements. You have to count everything by hand, where majority of other companys use scanners and computers. The warehouse and inventory planning teams have no clue what is actually in a store and over saturate product. Weekly emails to DMs are useless. Everything's micromanaged.
