Overworked and underpaid

Pros

You really do make a difference in the lives of children and adults.

Cons

The job literally just does not pay enough. I wouldn't have agreed with this assessment years ago, but the rate of pay does not at all keep up with the cost of living. Consultants also have responsibilities based on having a "more flexible schedule" but they really don't have a more flexible schedule than a mentor.

Pros

Lindamood-Bell uses research-validated methods to help improve decoding and reading comprehension skills. Employees really make a difference in the students' lives. The Miami center's culture and working environment was always welcoming.

Cons

Nationally, management was unorganized at times.

Takes Advantage of Employees and Parents

Pros

Seeing the students progress is rewarding.

Cons

They work clinicians like slaves. The bottom level employees are really good people–people willing to work grueling hours and low pay just to help kids– and the upper level management COMPLETELY profits off of their good nature. It is a demoralizing and soul-crushing place to work. The turnover is insane. Over my years here, I got very used to training new employees, knowing they would likely quit (if they were smart) within a few weeks of starting. So many rich and affluent parents are on the brink of trying to sue this place, and if they somehow knew they all agreed with each other, LMB would be in shambles. They claim to be "evidence-based", hoping to fool parents into paying more. The research is much more sparse then they let on. If you look at the studies done on LMB programs, the way the studies are conducted is so different from the way the instruction is implemented in-center that the research may as well be irrelevant. It is a nasty, awful, predatory place that takes advantage of the good nature of its hardest working employees. The HR department is horrible. All they do is throw one of their policies in your face and tell you to read it. It seems like HR has not yet realized that saying something in the company policies does not magically shape the company culture. The company policies are merely there as a surface-level safety precaution (incase they get in trouble for anything) and clearly aren't meant to improve the quality of work at LMB. Lastly, it seems like the whole company fails to realize that better working conditions = better work!! THAT is ultimately what makes me hate this place. Never work here. It will take away years of your life and then spit you out.
