Pros

The flexibility of the position was fantastic. Anyone looking for a side gig, a way to make extra money or just a part-time job would find this as a great option! I started when I was a mom of two young school kids and being able to work while they were at school was great. I could earn some money but not have to worry about taking time off in case they were sick or having to find care (or take time off) during non-school days, vacation, etc. I could work whenever I had the time, whatever time of day for however long at a time. If I needed some time off for a vacation or to move, I just took it off. Heck, I could work in my PJs if I wanted to! It was a really good fit. Despite the staff working in Ireland, the communication was always fast. It did not feel as if they were half a world away. The educational materials were plentiful so you never felt like you didn't have the information that you needed to do your job. There was a lot of diversity in the work you did. The pay was good considering you make your own schedule. There is advancement opportunity. I was a rater for about 4 years when I was offered the Senior rater position which came with a nice pay raise.

Cons

Occasionally, there would be a shortage of work but this definitely was not the norm. It certainly was not enough to even be considered a 'con'. But you have to know that this could happen every now and then. There is advancement opportunity but it isn't a position that has a lot of other opportunities to advance otherwise, at least in my experience. Working on the computer for hours at a time can be tedious. And you never knew what variety of work there would be so if it was a day with many of the same type of work, that might get monotonous.

Pros

I have been working for Lionbridge as a transcriber for almost two years. Pay is not the best, but it is decent. They pay on time. Work was easy. There were opportunities to do other transcription projects besides the main one you were hired for.

Cons

They used to have good communication skills and work was fairly consistent for the most part. Then they suddenly put all work on hold back in July with very little explanation. We were asked not to email them back about the reason why, so we pretty much had to sit and wonder what happened. They finally reached out in November with another project, which so far is not nearly as much work as before so not sure if it is even worth working on.

Thank you for taking time to post a review. While we don’t control the number of transcription projects that are available, communicating with the Lionbridge team should be easier than what you experienced. - Lionbridge CEO

Pros

You can work your own hours.

Cons

Projects will be placed "on hold" without notice. Basically you have no work to do and no pay for months because "on hold" apparently means canceled. They will announce a new project and then it's "delayed" for months, again leaving you without work.
