Pros

There are some very kind, intelligent people at this company The science is interesting

Cons

Work-life balance is nonexistent The pay is insulting There is no support from upper management for new ideas They have zero focus on tech, which will inevitably come back and bite them in the future The whole company seems like an ego trip for the CEO, who is insanely out of touch

Pros

You can find some good friends. Coffee is really good most of the time. It’s critical if you are going to be living at Locus. We recently dusted off some old products so there is work to do now so we don’t have to pretend things aren’t going to collapse without work to do from week to week. There are no real plans so people are busy and running in circles, Some things have gotten better but many are just getting worse so mental health and being positive can get hard here.

Cons

First can be easily replaced by a fresh batch of new college graduates and this happens multiple times per year. Locus is always hiring and exiting. The problem is that to exit you, first you become a target then are mistreated verbally until you are ignored or warned and then pushed out. It’s a pattern to over hire, stress them out then fire. So if you make good friends they could be gone soon after the next batch comes through. Sorry. Management can be very all over the place as well as cruel and really has no plan on how to get things done. As soon as a plan is made then you know everything changes. It’s exhausting trying to keep up with the project plan changes. And the meetings that go nowhere then everything changes. So many hours of my life wasted on meetings for nothing except for somebody’s power trip. And stop being obvious about favoritism. One word of caution from what I see staying too long in phage can be a career killer if you’re not careful since it doesn’t translate to other companies in the area or anywhere. So it may take longer than you’d think to secure another job. You will get pushed around from project to project depending on billing or if someone is having a power trip. You will feel often as just a body there to meet someone’s ego needs. CEO can be mercurial frequently.
