Pros

Medical benefits Time off Work/Life balance Co-workers are great (not managers)

Cons

This is a long list When you are first hired they treat you very well. After you are in the door don't plan on a yearly raise. It is an actual policy that merit raises are no longer. You will only get a raise if you are buddies with the manager and even then the company limits how many people get a raise. Older employees are in an uphill battle here. Lumen will try any means possible to squeeze you out. No raises, then as you get older your yearly reviews get worse. Speaking of reviews they are a joke. The business dictates how many people on your team get certain ratings in the 9-block. 1 person must get a 4, limited 5s are permitted and anything higher is very limited. Since level3 merger the management is awful. There are some manager that are very childish and hold grudges against people for stupid things. Lumen talks a big game on their diversity, but what they say and what they do are very different things. Being disabled is a real disadvantage at Lumen.

Out of Touch with the Times - Dying Company

Pros

None that I can think of after a decade plus of employment.

Cons

CEO eradicated raises years ago for the rank and file but still makes between $17 million and $35 million annually while the stock languishes around $10/share and revenues decline. Company is a product of multiple M&As but has never merged internal tools so it's a morass internally. Leadership caters to it's pets and ignores/overworks the true performers who actually get the job done. Revenue declines every year with no end in sight due to the commodity nature of its services. Management is rife with liars. Lack of transparency and HR speak is endemic. Drinking the kool aid is a management pre-requisite.

Pros

Like most jobs, there are wonderful people and you can build plenty of close connections. Work/life balance is decent for many, but not as you move up.

Cons

Outdated business model that will ultimately lead this company to fail if they don’t figure out how to exist in this century. This company is struggling hard and it is so evident in the atmosphere. Penny pinching all around. Leadership cannot agree to the same strategy and has unrealistic expectations around what is possible. Focused on too many shiny objects and not on clear goals. Totally scattered and a lot of micromanagement. Toxic and competitive environment, rather than a collaborative and fun culture. So many double standards when it comes to practicing what they preach. Bonus cuts and NO raises ever. I’ve worked for many companies and this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. Some departments may be better than others.
