Pros

Great vision (on paper) and a noble cause Some great and amazing talents in certain teams

Cons

Constant pressure to meet unrealistic timelines Unbalanced organization with over-hiring in certain teams compared to others that need resources with over-worked individuals... being ignored or discarded No prioritization (everything is urgent) Somehow promoting hurtful behaviors (aggressiveness, politics) Lack of diversity (though this is true for most of Silicon Valley)

Pros

Hard to think of any

Cons

Walk around the office and you’ll notice a lack of diversity. Working there I noticed a lack of DEI initiatives. A quick survey will show the majority of the staff are men. Very few women in higher roles or outside of HR. Mostly hiring ambitious entry level engineers and managers. The management teams lack experience which shows in how they lead the teams with no clear sight on deliverables and short stressful deadlines. I have seen some teams work weekends to play catch up. Check on LinkedIn and you’ll find titles and promotions are heavily valued at this company. Generally, the titles do not accurately reflect the person’s experience level and inflate their limited job experience. Following a promotion there is usually no significant change to compensation. Pay is not competitive. Other startups in similar industries pay much better. Benefits policy is lacking in many areas. Pay close attention to the fine print on the job descriptions and benefits documents. PTO is said to be “flexible”, “generous”, or “unlimited”. But the company culture trend is not to use vacation time. Work life balance is not respected. If you use vacation time, there is unspoken judgment from your coworkers. The peer pressure to not use vacation time is noticable. The company has many former Tesla employees. And although Lunar works hard about it, the negative aspects of the Tesla culture spill over into this company as well. I would not recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I genuinely value feedback, especially those that point out areas where we can improve. I wish these concerns had been communicated directly to me during your time with us, as it would have allowed us to address them head-on. I’d like to follow up here and address a few of the key points you brought up. Diversity & Inclusion: We recognize the importance of a diverse workforce. As an engineering-led organization, I'm proud that we have greater female representation than the industry average, but we recognize that’s not enough and we continue to aim higher. We’ve also established a DEI culture council that listens and provides recommendations to leadership. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace, which was positively reflected in our recent culture and engagement survey. Management: Our management team has a proven track record of shipping products. We further support their growth with the guidance of an executive coach, helping them excel in leading, communicating with, and supporting their teams. Compensation & Titles: We benchmark our compensation regularly and adjust compensation in line with market trends. Every employee's compensation is reviewed at least annually. Our transparent promotion process guarantees fairness and growth opportunities. We also assess new hires at six months to ensure appropriate leveling and compensation. Benefits & PTO: As a startup, we recognize the dedication and hard work from our teams. While our growth phase may be intense and not for everyone, we recognize that people need time off. We encourage people to take breaks, and as a norm we expect our employees to take 15 - 20 vacation days per year as a minimum, not counting holidays. Company Culture: Lunar has a unique culture that we're proud of reflected in high scores during our most recent culture and engagement survey. We're committed to ensuring Lunar's culture remains inclusive, positive, and inspiring. I recognize that we’re a startup moving fast and that there’s always room for improvement. We always value feedback and will continue to push for excellence. Grace, VP of People

Pros

The mission and the CEO

Cons

They talk a good game but don't mean what they say. The company is rapidly growing. HR is desperately needed. Can we say Microaggression, Entitlement, and Privilege is a problem amongst management?

Thanks for your feedback, and I appreciate that you are excited about the mission of the company. You are right that we are growing fast. We have a bold mission to transition homes to 100% clean energy and in two years we have grown to nearly 250 people across two continents. We are developing the most transformative hardware and software products to decarbonize homes worldwide, and for such disruption it takes speed and rapid growth. I take your concerns about HR and management seriously, and I would appreciate hearing more from you directly so we can continue to improve. At Lunar, we take pride in having a transparent, flat and trusting culture, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly to share more. We do have established HR teams in the US and UK that are invested in growing our talent and continually developing an inclusive culture. I am proud of our people and what we’re accomplishing together in such a short time and some of our efforts around people engagement were reflected in high scores during our most recent culture and engagement survey. I am sure there is always room to improve and would love to hear directly from you on this. Kunal Girotra Founder & CEO
