Pros

Good, competitive benefits. Important, rewarding work. Great access to current research. Great opportunities for further learning.

Cons

Salary as determined by HR was low for having a college degree. Clocking in was also required which shows a lack of trust. HR complains about coffee in the intranet portal instead of fixing the above problems.

Pros

This company provides great salary ranges.

Cons

It is inconceivable that a company this size and with endless funding, has the worst systems and software programs I have ever used in my career. MD Anderson refuses to build any applications internally like most companies because they are cheap and won't invest in or prioritize technology. Instead, they purchase lousy, inefficient, buggy programs and systems that only complete half of the job and disappear after several years because the institution has decided to move in another direction. If you like an application, don't get attached because in a few years, you can bet that the institution will stop supporting it. They don't bother asking the end users for feedback or building systems that fits the needs of the users. None of the systems are connected and there is no way to easily store, access, export and report data. The employees or end users are expected to figure it out. There is a gross lack of focus on technology and as a result many of the employees are stressed out and overworked. There is a reason people are leaving and turnover is incredibly high in many positions. When MD Anderson mentions advanced technology in their marketing materials they are strictly speaking about equipment used to treat patients or patient records. The low and mid salary employees are low priority and forgotten. All of the leaders and decision makers in Central Information Technology need to be fired. and reorganized. Another issue is the antiquated and conservative faculty who have no leadership skills and in most offices, very few people of color. There are countless incompetent and lazy Division and Program Administrators, Faculty and leadership who are running Programs and Departments with no leadership or communication skills. They over delegate, and don't advocate for their staff. Overall, funding and grants, donors, faculty, and the bottom line outweigh the needs of the lower and middle level employees and managers who are doing all of the work. Don't be fooled by the smoke and mirrors. A lot of people who work here are miserable and stuck in their positions with no way out.
