Pros

MDA has excellent salary and benefits; I do believe there is opportunity to grow and it's so large that you can move to different a different department and have a whole new job and experience. People are great, patient care is beyond reproach.

Cons

ALOT of red tape, ALOT of policies and procedures that totally frustrate the faculty and make the job of dept. manager very difficult. New president and EVP-PIC spend more time on developing "moon shots" and "strategic planning" than actually getting to know the areas and figuring out the real problems. Morale is low and I would jump ship in a second if given the opportunity. Many world-class faculty have left and many top executives. Makes me fearful for what's coming up.

Pros

The majority of faculty and staff are very committed to the mission and vision of this once great institution which is to provide the best treatment for cancer patients and to develop much better approaches to treat and hopefully cure cancer patients.

Cons

The new leadership is arrogant, nepotistic, ruthless and driven by their own personal agendas. Their behavior has embarrassed the faculty and staff in a very public way. They have set of a two tier system, where the new hires for the "Institute" developed by new leadership are paid 2-3 times what faculty and staff are while not being held to the same performance standards. Faculty morale is at an all time low, with >50% of faculty stating that they will leave within the next 3-5 years. The leadership style has been very destructive and has resulted in faculty fleeing from this once great institution on a weekly basis. There have been multiple demotions and firings of faculty and staff who do not do the bidding of the new leadership. The national press is now calling for a downgrading of the #1 rating of MD Anderson in Cancer Care by the US News and World Report. Although once this happens -and it will happen- the leadership will be called to account for this actions, it will be much too late to recover from the multiple programs that have been destroyed. We have become a laughingstock nationally, with a recognition that the grand "Moonshot Program" is nothing more than a fund raising ploy to provide money to supper the senior leadership research programs in this era of low grant funds and sequestrations.

Forgotten mission and core values. Arrogance is a problem.

Pros

Decent benefits, work with lots of smart, dedicated people. It is very rewarding to help so many patients in need. TRS retirement is great benefit, if you can sick it out.

Cons

MDAnderson, you aren't the only place in town. Get real. High level managers in it for themselves have discarded the core value: INTEGRITY. You still have many hardworking, dedicated employees to keep the place running, But even patients are noticing how you have slipped. Now it's just business. That is very sad. I am not interested in returning.
