Pros

All of my coworkers are brilliant, kind, and mission-driven. I genuinely feel that the work I do is simultaneously improving my skills and making the country/world a better and safer place. I feel that there is great job security and that my skills will always be in demand, regardless of the tech sector and market conditions.

Cons

The CEO, Jason Providakes, and the rest of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) are tone-deaf and condescending when responding to the concerns of employees. In the past year, there have been countless poorly executed benefits cuts and changes that were defended using gaslighting to convince employees that other companies are worse. CEO update calls always leave me feeling worse than I did before it started because they respond to all questions with condescending fluff.

Pros

+ Ability to do impactful work for the Sponsor, while being a trusted advisor and not having to "drum up" business due to the not-for-profit nature and operating as an FFRDC. + Flexibility to drive your own career in terms of what types of skills you want to hone, while also being engaged in many that you don't know you need (at the time) due to the small-team nature of most work. + Great caring individuals at the worker level whom you can develop friendships with. + Good benefits for parental leave. + Middle/senior management up to Director level is engaged and care about their people, but are often limited in actions by Corporate micromanaging.

Cons

- Lack of transparency at executive level - Depleting benefits in terms of Paid-Time-Off - Cutting Holidays - Capped pay-raises that don't outpace or begin to approach inflation - Lack of focus on Revenue generating staff - Deprioritization on retaining subject matter experts (technological, and Sponsor-based) that have long made MITRE the place to be and for Sponsors to go to - No benefit to longer tenured employees make job-hopping much more approachable than it used to be, depleting camaraderie
