Dysfunctional Workplace

Pros

Up until about 2020, this used to be a great company to work for. The work is often times cutting edge and innovative, challenging us in good ways. My immediate colleagues are nearly always wonderful to work with. Sometimes we have a difference of opinion but it usually feels like healthy debate as we then find a mutually agreed upon path forward.

Cons

As I mentioned, this place started changing around 2020 following a major reorganization. Since then, there has been a massive influx of VPs and SVPs, many of whom are not able to articulate their vision and fail to connect with the larger workforce. Senior leadership decisions, direction, and communication are reactionary, confusing, inconsistent, and at times detrimental to employee morale. All signs indicate that the company is going through financial challenges. They cut our PTO and holidays and are suddenly doing random webinars on what makes up our overhead and fringe rates. We have grown in number of bodies but I don’t see that we are growing in skills and knowledge. And with all this growth, a lot of staff are short on project work. There are just so many things off right now and all together they make for a negative experience as an employee.

Another holiday, another layoff

Pros

Great people committed to serving in the public interest. Opportunities with impact in serving the Federal Sector

Cons

Complete lack of empathy or ability to execute Corporate strategies without causing major wreckage. One would think firing 40 senior staff to settle old scores just 2 days before the 4th of July would be enough for the CEO to demonstrate his omnipotence. Nope. Let’s double down and fire close to 100 staff two days before Thanksgiving to foment greater fear and uncertainty in the workforce. Better yet, do this under a cloak of darkness so no one will know what hit them.

Pros

Benefits, while once "good" are not "Best of Breed" any longer. Work / Life Balance is Good

Cons

Leadership is partisan, woke, insulting, dismissive, unwilling to listen to views not in line with their conception of the world, I could go on and on but why bother. Feedback is a gift and most of us have long since stopped caring if you listen.
