Pros

The Employee benefits and coworkers.

Cons

If you are thinking of working at Macy's, please reconsider. Little to no recognition. One of their values is "You count". They do very little to make you feel valued. Poor training when you first start your job. Pile on so much work you always feel behind and overwhelmed. When they pile on more work they say they will take something off your plate but they never do. They talk about the "Magic of Macy's" through out the organization. If you work there there is no magic A very disorganized organization. If you ask for help they don't offer it and then hold it against you during your review. The coaching of Department Managers is suppose to happen every two weeks by the Store Manager. The purpose is to inspire them or help them improve. The coaching is poor or they just blow off your appointment.. The company expects the Department Manager to coach their associates but if you can't get it done that is not acceptable. Why is it OK for the Store Manager to not coach her subordinates but it not Ok for the Department Manager not to coach their associates. It is very inconsistent from one Store Manager to another. One Store Manager will hold you to certain expectation and then the next Store Manager comes along and she doesn't hold you to ANY expectation. During inventory you can end up working 35 hours in three days and nobody in the company cares. Dangerous if you have to drive home drowsy and sleep deprived.

Pros

Easy work, rather simple to adjust schedule to your liking.

Cons

Idiotic "Sales goals." IE sell X amount of goods for the day and you get graded on your production. Makes the workplace unnecessarily competitive for retail. Also pressured by management to open credit card accounts, even if utilizing underhanded tactics. No chain of command to report issues to, HR is a joke. A lot of internacine politics. Quality of work doesn't matter when it comes to promotion, sleep with the store manager and you're good to go.
