Pros

The 20% employee discount is the best when you combine it with your Macys credit card coupons. The comopany also has "Employee Appreciation" days when they will take off another 10% or 15% in adittion to your standard 20%. In my position for Mens Suits I am paid an hourly wage and commission so you can at least count on your scheduled hours for money as opposed to straight comission. Unlike some stores although the management wants you to meet your daily sales goal it goes unnoticed if you miss your goal here and there. Vacation time is much easier to redeem than at some stores like Neiman Marcus. There is a ten minute grace period if your running late for work and you can clock into work ten minutes early and then leave your shift ten minutes early as well if you clocked in early.

Cons

Absoutley no room for adavancement unless you harass customers into opening a charge account. After several years of working part time and proving my sales ability over and over the management doesnt do anything to help you move on to full time or another store. The store hours can make it impossible to plan your life if your part time because they will stick you with closing shifts in which the store can close at 9pm to 12am depending on the sale. The company now has so many sales and reduces the prices so low that it makes earning your commission a joke. THEY DO NOT EXCUSE YOUR ABSENCES FOR ILLNESS EVEN WITH A DOCTORS NOTE! Depending on the length of your illness this can result in punishments that place you on probation for six months where if you accrue two points (1 point per abscence) within that six month period they have the right to block you for raises, transfers and promotions or at its most severe terminate you. Working at Macys is best if your just there as a seasonal hire. You come in for a few months and utilize the discount and not worry about sales goals, opening credit accounts etc.
