Pros

Better benefits than alot of retailers; flexible scheduling; coworkers are the best reason-not all fun and games, but you can count on them if you need help.

Cons

Inconsistent enforcement of rules; going to all part time--especially in non selling areas; this will reduce benefits available to the average worker---managers will retain theirs. Management does not enteract with staff, except if they have to.

Pros

Macy's gives you opportunities for growth. I went from a sales associate to a manager. The salary was decent for first time management experience. Vendors come in and educate you on the products you sell. They also offer some training support but it could be better.

Cons

The mentor they gave me did not have my best interest as they were competitive with my position. The training they offer from corporate is good, except when you go through the disciplinary process with a troubled employee it is impossible to have HR support you in the last step to termination, no matter how offensive they are to other employees or customers. If the associate doesn't do something extreme like stealing etc. they will not allow you to pursue the counseling process to lead to termination. This makes a management position very difficult. It is very hard to achieve outstanding results with negative and lazy associates. As management will say themselves, "What do you expect for 7 dollars an hour?" That is absolutely correct, but Macy's does give performing associates incentives/increases so why not decrease the unproductive ones?
