Pros

They have a pretty decent discount. I mean, if you of your family shops at Macy's. And the empolyee lounge is okay. I'm not too keen on the new dress code but they do look nice. And they have pretty decent music over the intercom. Um...I can't write 100 words about how great or bad Macy's was... They pay pretty well and if you're full time, the breaks are fantastic! thirty more words... The discount applies to anything in the entire store, regardless of what department you work in. Plus, they have special days where employees can come in and get double their orignal discount.

Cons

When I was working there, I didn't like the long hours. Also, in order to use your discount you have to sign up for a Macy's card. I got into some serious credit trouble with that but I have since repaired the damage. It's regular reatil so no benefits. I know on many occasions I had been reprimanded for causing customers to leave when it was them who caused the issue. Um, I still can't write 100 words on Macy's disadvantages. All in all it wasn't great but it could have been much much much worse. Oh, There's no sitting down.

Pros

Macy's provides a good entry level job to get into retail and there are some opportunities for advancement to specialist or commissioned areas. The employee discounts and Macy Money are also good perks.

Cons

Although associates are expected to sell items to customers, provide outstanding customer service, and keep the department in order, pay starts at or around minimum wage and, in my experience at least, there is very little recognition for hard work where it is due. An associate has to sell a certain amount and open a certain number of credit applications to get recognized as a hard worker, whereas those who work the floor and try to do stock work are ignored for their efforts. A lot of people get away with sitting down on the job and chatting all day without the managers realizing at all.
