Pros

It is a fun place to work. Compension for commission works is better than most. The people are friendly.

Cons

Not enough training for new employees. Expected to work very hard for your money. When things get busy as they often due in retail around the holiday's their was little help when you need it.

Pros

The work life balance is great. I often times came in to the office around 8:30am in the morning and left at 5pm so the hours were more than reasonable. I very much so enjoyed working with my peers and loved interacting in the market place with so many vendors and partners. Minneapolis is a great city as well so this made the job more exciting.

Cons

The compensation is poor and not competitive. Macy's needs to really decide who they are as a company. The senior leadership was extremely dishonest with many employees who have been layed-off as they did not want to communicate to their employees about how the organizational structure would change.

Pros

Macy's offers some of the greatest opportunities in the retail world. Starting in an entry level position allows you to be promoted within about six months to eight months. All management is very willing to teach and very patient if you understanding is below others. Not to mention, the Macy's name is very well respected by other companies for future advancement in the retail business.

Cons

Macy's is so large that sometimes the people around you will be promoted faster strictly because of a position open above them. In the entry level to two year positions promotions seem to be out of convenience rather than sheer work output. Don't get me wrong, if you are slow with your work or have a willing bad relationship with managers you will have a difficult time being promoted.
