Pros

I got to work with great people and had a pretty flexible schedule. The interview was also pretty easy and I started within a week of being hired.

Cons

Raises are very minimal even if you're told you're doing a good job (10 or 20 cents per year). There is very little room for growth. The AST department is pretty small so it was hard to pick up shifts to make extra money. I didn't personally sell anything or have to try and get people to open up credit cards, but I saw a lot of sales associates struggle to meet their goals. Managers didn't try to mentor or coach them in any way.

Pros

Worked at the 11 Penn office in NY. We had summer fridays every year. Definite plus. Also company 401K match was decent (even though the did away with the pension plan) Work life balance was good Lots of opportunities to get involved and volunteer both at work and outside work Nice people

Cons

I feel career stagnation after about the 3rd year there but stayed around a few years more thinkingt things would change. I was made to believe I could move over into another area if I completed my development plan to move in that direction but that never happened so I ended up going elsewhere. Salary was so so. Yearly raises are like 2%. Even if your brand does really well not everyone who contributed to the success of the brand, necessarily gets a bonus, especially if you are in a "support area" That was disappointing.

Pros

you get to create your own schedule using their online system so it comes in very handy because you're given a set part time schedule of 15 hours but can pick up shifts in any department. often times i was able to get 25 hours a week. it's great if you're a student also because you can advertise your shifts online and people pick them up fast. you can swap as well. there's a lot of leeway in that. management doesn't hound you as much so long as you do the minimum.

Cons

opening up credit cards. they really push for this and sometimes managers would hover over you especially if you're new. they want to make sure you're advertising the macy's credit card to every customer. they want you to make your sales goals consistently which is hard in some departments because of how empty and deserted some stores are. it doesn't matter how hard you tend to customers, how you engage, or how well you straighten and tidy up your department. if you're not meeting your sales goal and/or opening up enough cards they come down on you. training is ridiculous. you train on computers in the back when you first start but once you get out on the floor it's so different. and there are so many options and ways to do things. my coworkers helped me out so much when i first started, they were the ones who trained me so thank you to them. coupons and promotions hardly ever worked so customers would get upset at all the exclusions. and who can blame them. management didn't guide or support. they just walked around for no reason doing nothing.
