Pros

The customers are great, you get lots of samples, if you open a Macy's credit card or prepaid card for yourself you get use the 20% off employee discount.

Cons

1. If you work in a department that has commissions, and you are a flex position (on-call, floater) you get only $9 per hour and 2% comission and be ready to be "hated" by the regular employees who get $10 per hour and 3% comission so they think they are better than you. They are very jealous of their customers and they feel like you are stealing their commission. Instead of welcoming you as part of the team, to help them fill up the gap in schedules, they will tell you "we don't need you". 2.As a flex position you are told during interview that you can choose your own schedule but once you start the manager will schedule you manually in crazy shifts to cover other employees that call-out at last minute or who are in vacation. I told them during interview that I was available for about 20 hours a week but I ended doing many weeks with 33 hours. That's almost a full-time schedule with no medical benefits. There's no work-life balance. 3. You just have 2 days of training on a computer to learn how to use the cash register. But the real training with the customers is gonna be on the sales floor. As a flex position for the cosmetic department you don't get trainning by any counter (Lancome, Clinique, Estee Lauder, etc) that means you cannot put make-up on customer faces. And you dont use their uniforms either. So the customer feels like you are not prepared to answer their questions or sell the product. 4. You are forced to offer Macy's credit card to every single customer but they cannot use the Macy's coupons on cosmetics, so whats the point? Customers are happy with the purchase but then you offer the credit card, donation to charities, ask they phone number every time, and they get so annoyed by the time they are ready to pay they are not happy customers anymore.

Pros

Great salary, excellent co-workers who are willing to help you in any way that you need.

Cons

Management didn't seem to care about developing their new college graduates. Very little opportunity to enhance skill set, and as a result the young employees do not stick around very long.
